Ocean & air calculators
Convert cartons into cubic metres and cubic feet, and find the chargeable weight for both air freight and ocean LCL.
CBM & chargeable weight calculator
Cubic metres, cubic feet, air volumetric weight and the ocean LCL revenue ton.
Cubic feet converter calculator
Cubic inches, cubic feet, cubic metres, litres and gallons, plus pounds, kilograms and tons.
Two modes, two conventions
- Volume first. CBM is length times width times height in metres. Everything downstream is built on it.
- Air: 6,000 cm³ per kilo. That makes one cubic metre count as 166.67 kg. You are charged on the greater of that and the gross weight.
- Ocean LCL: the revenue ton. The greater of cubic metres and metric tons, counting one cubic metre as one tonne. Since that is the density of water, LCL is almost always charged on volume.
The two break-even densities are 167 kg per cubic metre for air and 1,000 for ocean. Freight that bills on weight by air can easily bill on volume by sea, so compare chargeable figures rather than rates per kilo.
