LTL freight calculators
Build the pallet, work out its density and freight class, and see what fuel adds to the rate.
Freight class calculator
Freight class from your pallet dimensions and weight, on the 13-sub NMFC density scale.
Freight density calculator
Pounds per cubic foot for one piece or a pallet, and the class band it falls in.
Pallet calculator
Cartons per pallet with a real packing solver, and how many pallets fit in a truck or container.
Fuel surcharge calculator
Surcharge per mile from the diesel price, base price and mpg, with the all-in rate.
How an LTL shipment gets priced
- Measure the load as it ships. Pallet included, overhang counted, height to the top of the tallest carton. Round every dimension up.
- Work out the density. Total weight divided by total cube, in pounds per cubic foot. For a shipment with several pallets, add all the cube and all the weight and divide once.
- Read off the class. The NMFC density scale maps density bands to classes from 50 to 400. Denser freight gets a lower class and a better rate.
- Check the commodity's own listing. Items flagged for handling, stowability or liability concerns carry a fixed class whatever their density.
Carriers measure nearly every shipment on the dock now. A class that does not match what the dimensioner records comes back as a reclassification and an adjusted invoice, so the accurate number is also the cheaper one.
